Please help me find my lost 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu.  I am offering a $1000.00 reward to the person who can locate the car for me (regardless of condition).

It is a very long story, but a brief summary of the car's history is as follows:

The Chevelle that you see in the pictures below was my first car.  I was the second owner and purchased the car in 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio.  I drove the Chevelle until I moved to Los Angeles in 1980, at which time I sold the car to my sister.  The only condition that I put on the purchase was that she had to promise to sell it back to me when she no longer wanted it.  She agreed and we had a deal.

Well, the best laid plans as they say.  Flash forward several years.  My sister marries, then divorces.  Her ex-husband was driving the car when their marriage ended in the mid-1980's and the car was never seen again.  He claimed at the time that it was being "restored" by Roman Chariot but they have never heard of the car.  Subsequent attempts to contact my former brother-in-law to find out what he did with the car have proven fruitless.

I currently hold the title to the car so I am the legal owner.  I have researched the VIN number of the Chevelle thoroughly, have checked every department of motor vehicles in the country, and the car is not registered anywhere.  As of 1993 the Chevelle was still listed under my sister's name as being active, but shortly thereafter Ohio switched to an electronic database so there are no records available to search after that date.

I believe that the Chevelle is somewhere in the Cleveland/Cuyahoga County area, most likely parked and not running.  My belief is that my former brother-in-law had the intention of repairing or restoring the car until his marriage broke up.  Then he simply blew the whole thing off and whoever was working on the car at the time just let the car sit.

The pertinent information about the car is as follows:

The color of the car was Mulsanne Blue with a black vinyl interior.

It was a 2 door automatic, power steering and power brakes, no air conditioning.

The VIN # was 136371K215090

The license plate was from Ohio: AAJ023

Perhaps you are a mechanic, or work at a wrecking yard, or maybe you're a good amateur detective.  I don't know, and I realize that this is a very long shot, but my desire to find my first car is very real, as is my guarantee of a $1000.00 reward.  Produce the car, I'll fly there to meet you.  We will verify that the car is indeed my Chevelle and then I'll pay you $1000.00 cash.  Period.

So in conclusion, if you are someone in the Cleveland area with a little time on your hands to help out a 53 year guy nostalgic for his first car, then who knows?  We may both just get lucky!

Email me at [email protected] if you have any information regarding my lost Chevelle Malibu.
